About this test
Think your partner might be cheating? Have you found a stain which you suspect might be semen? Does the stain actually contain semen? EasyDNA offers semen detection testing – a laboratory based test that will confirm or exclude the presence of semen in the sample sent*.
The results of your semen detection test will be issued in 10 – 15 working days from receipt of samples at our laboratory.
Note: This test does not require a kit. Once we confirm your order, you will be sent a confirmation email with a form attached. The form needs to printed, filled out and returned with your sample. Ensure to place the sample to be tested in a paper envelope. If you plan sending in more than 1 sample, contact us for a quote.
The samples for semen detection
We can test a vast range of samples for the presence of semen. Typically, our clients send bed linen, underwear or an item of clothing. You must however, before sending any sample, locate the stained area, cut out and package it to be sent off to the laboratory. If you are unsure about the viability of the sample, do not hesitate to contact our customer support team.
The results of a semen detection test
Our semen detection test will offer one of the following results:
- A positive result: in this case, the presence of semen or sperm has been detected
- A negative result: in this case, the presence of semen or sperm has been excluded
DNA testing following a semen detection test
If the semen detection results are positive, you may wish to carry out an infidelity DNA test. What we will do in this case is actually to attempt to extract the DNA from the sample used in the semen detection test and compare this to another DNA sample (usually a mouth swab sample). If the DNA profiles from the two samples are an exact match we can confirm that these two samples belong to the same individual. For more information about our infidelity testing service, click here. Note that the turnaround time for this additional test is 13 working days. It is important to keep in mind that we will first need to carry out a DNA verification test – not all semen samples contain DNA or enough/viable DNA for a comparison test.
Please note this is not a DIY instant home test that can detect the presence of semen instantly by rubbing a solution on an affected area and observing a colour change. Home semen detection kits are known as presumptive tests and only provide an indication as to whether semen is present or not. Presumptive tests also have a chance of false positives and are thus only reliable when it comes to excluding the presence of semen.
