Horse Allergy Test – Identify and Manage Your Horse’s Allergies & Sensitivities
Horses often live in environments that have a high presence of dust, moulds, or other common airborne allergens. While horses and humans live differently, they share one important similarity — both can suffer from allergies. The Horse Allergy Test is designed to determine your horse’s response to various allergens and provide insights on how you can effectively manage their health and wellbeing.
Why Do Horses Need an Allergy Test?
Horses can develop allergies that affect their skin, often resulting in itching. Common allergens include dust, mold, mildew, pollen, and dust mites. Allergens that affect the respiratory system can cause hypersensitivity, leading to symptoms such as a runny nose, coughing, and difficulty breathing. Similar to humans, horses may also experience digestive issues caused by certain foods or grains.
The Horse Allergy Test provides valuable insight into the specific allergens triggering your horse’s symptoms. Instead of relying on time-consuming and costly trial-and-error methods, this test delivers a detailed report showing your horse’s reactions to up to 120 allergens. The results will help you make informed adjustments to your horse’s lifestyle, promoting long-term health and relief—while potentially reducing unnecessary veterinary visits due to undiagnosed allergies.

How does the Horse Allergy Test work and what age should I test my horse?
We recommend you at least 12 months old for the most accurate and reliable results.
Take note of these things before sample collection to avoid distorted results; if still unsure, please contact us before collecting your sample:
You will receive a test kit with full instructions. Using the provided lancet, collect a small drop of blood from your horse — ideal sampling sites include the side of the neck or lower lip area, where blood vessels are visible and accessible.
- Disinfect the site using the provided wipe.
- Collect blood sample before feeding using the lancet.
- Apply one drop to each of the 5 circles on the blood collection card.
- Allow the card to air dry for at least 2 hours.
- Place it in the protective bag and return it to us.
For 1–2 weeks before sampling, avoid handing out medication such as dexamethasone or prednisone, as these medications may suppress immune response. Antibiotics is the only medication that does not interfere with the results.
Once complete, your results will show the degree of allergic reaction to each allergen tested, categorised either 0 (no signs of allergy), 1 (low), 2 (moderate) or 3 (high).
How do the results help horse owners?
The horse allergy test will not only confirm the allergic reaction it also determines the sensitivity levels to the distinct allergens.
- You can customize your horse diet by staying away from feed mixes or grains that upset horses stomach.
- The horse’s performance will be enhanced because of easier breathing and digestion; they tend to be more active and trainable.
- You can modify the environment exposure by adjusting beddings and consistent ventilation that can help the horses respiratory system.
- You can lower your vet expenditures by determining the main cause of the problems that can minimize the need for treatments.
The horse test is reliable; it is based on IgE antibody detection. IgE antibodies are produced by the immune system when exposed to allergens by measuring these levels it can give a clear picture in which substances your horse reacts to. The test will be accomplished with strict protocols that ensure consistency and reliability.

By measuring these levels, the test provides a clear and accurate picture of which substances your horse reacts to. All tests are carried out under strict laboratory protocols to ensure consistency and reliability, giving you confidence in the results.
